Welcome to Worship at Bethel

Bethel United Methodist Church offers two Sunday Services of Worship

9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
Both of our morning worship services are traditional and normally follow the typical United Methodist style, including hymns, anthems, instrumental music, spoken prayers, Scripture readings and a sermon. A nursery with a paid staff is provided for young children. Silent pagers are available in the event the nursery should need to contact a parent during worship.

Though both services at Bethel are nearly identical, there are several differences. The 9:00 a.m. service is slightly less formal. Music at this service rotates with something different each week. You may find a senior citizen’s choir, a youth ensemble, or an accomplished instrumentalist or soloist. Many of our young families choose to worship at 9:00.  Children are offered an opportunity to be excused early in the service for Children’s Worship.

The 11:15 a.m. service typically features the Bethel Chancel Choir, a group of experienced singers who sing from all periods of choral music. While they are particularly adept at classical styles, the Chancel Choir maintains a repertoire of modern compositions which touch on the current and changing perspective of the evolving Christian Church. The historic setting in Charleston lends itself to Bethel’s celebration of great historic American sacred music. A typical 11:15 service includes two anthems by the choir, often supported by accomplished instrumentalists from the local area.

The sacrament of The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at both services on the first Sunday of each month. In keeping with the United Methodist understanding of the sacrament, anyone who is present is invited to receive Holy Communion, regardless of age or church affiliation. God’s grace is available to all and abounds in worship at Bethel.
